If you're interested in making Palm trees, a method I've used in the past has been to use a pipe cleaner and chicken feathers.   The pipecleaner forms the stem, the chicken feathers the leaves.  Glue the feathers to one end of the pipecleaner, by the stalk of the feather.  You paint the stem dark brown and use very thin paint or even dye to colour the feathers dark green.  Works well for 1/72 or 1/76 scales.
