It's not easy creating a website forum and trying to decide what to have and what not to have. Some people will want stuff, while others won't. I know all too well about this as I've Modded in the past. For the moment, I say let's give it a shot and see how it works out. If it doesn't work out weeks later, then maybe the staff here can think of something else?
No offense, but having to go to 2, 3, 4, or more different websites for discussing What If or other model subjects can be a pain. I don't want to have to keep remembering login names, passwords, or even logging in to one forum and posting something, then logging out, then going to another website forum and doing the same thing, etc., etc., etc.

But like I said, let's give the new area that Saur wanted a chance and see how well it does.
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

I must admit that i've given less attention to ship whiffs since the subforums were started. Now i don't look at anything but aircraft.

As to your logging in/out and changing sites comment, Seadude?  Tabbed browsing in Firefox for the win.  I always have at minimum five tabs up - Modelwarships.com, Whatif, Shipbucket, ARC, and my Photobucket.  I kinda flip between them quickly when checking things out.
Putty-fu, Scratch-jutsu and Bash-chi, the sacred martial arts of the What-If. Mastering them, is Ancient Chinese Secret.

Just your friendly neighbourhood Mad Scientist and Ship-whiffer.

Overkill? Nah, it's Insurance.  So are the 20" guns.

Neither seadude or I expressed the thought ships etc weren't welcome, Moritz - <...>

Yes, I got that. It's just that seadude said he welcomed "more diversity by allowing armor, sci-fi, and ship WHIF's" and I pointed out that whifs other than aircraft have always been allowed.

Again, just my opinion, but I don't think that doubling threads is the way to go. Makes it even more confusing to keep track of things. Which is the very reason threads on similar topics have been merged.
Cheers,
Moritz

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

I've long built ship whiffs and posted them here and on the predecessor boards. I haven't gotten into the hobby room often enough recently, so the few projects I have nearly finished aren't quite there yet.

I also always encourage modelers on this board to try ships, sometimes by subterfuge of convincing them to try a carrier plane or float plane or seaplane. From there it's easier to try a floaty subject.

And I enjoy the occasional winged thing, and have a couple ideas for armored subjects, only one of which floats.

I'll drop by the subboard, too!

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

I like the way the forums are now....armour, cars, figures and ships get swallowed up in all the aeroplanes.

Great job, guys !

On reflection I think it's a good idea. I always go through all "unread posts" when I log on but doing the in progress stuff this way helps my sad little brain concentrate on the subject matter a little better rather then having to jump around from genre to genre. It also means that if you are short for time you can more easily organise your viewing whilst not losing sight of the fact that there are un-viewed sub-forums. Once it settles down I think it will prove a sound idea.

However I wouldn't want to see any farther breakdown into say periods. This happens on Britmodeller (a site I find way to big anyway) and I find when I do go in I only look at my period of interest and miss a lot of cross-over stuff

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
