ive been working on something on the side for a few days.
with spring in the air, and next weeks harbour festivities in Blankenberge, ive been in kind of a nautical mood.

i have this Revell 1/125 Ocean Exploration Vessel in the stash, a reboxed old RV Calypso.

looking up the history of this ship on Wikipedia, i noticed the ship was a converted Royal Navy BYMS-Class minesweeper.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BYMS_class_minesweeper

since im not much for civilian models, i thought i would convert this one back to a military vessel, this time in a What If version.
this one is intended for my own New Flanders Navy, under the name NVMS Hannigan.
for the conversion im gonna be removing all the research equipment and the helicopter pad from the ship, and place on some minehunting equipment, including the scratchbuilding of a Belgian-made SeaFox unmanned submarine (or conversion of the one in the box).
i already started by placing a 40mm bofors gun on the front deck.
since ships are not exactly my field of work, im gonna be using mostly photo reference of modern Belgian minehunters.

some in-progress pictures.

It's rather interesting that I never knew till now that it was built here in Washington state. Wow!
"Mind that bus." "What bus?" *SPLAT!*

Nice idea Nils, that's one that wouldn't have occured to me.  Now that it's in naval colours, it's ancestry becomes apparent.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

took some time, but i managed to finish her today, ready to set sail
