As explained in this thread, I've started work on a Revell 1/700 Colombo Express to be outfitted as a SCADS carrier.

The hull, with a Type 45 in the same scale for reference:

(Started a new thread to separate my build from general discussion of SCADS)

Sweet!  Love all SCADs/Atlantic Conveyor type builds.  You will have PLENTY of room for your air wing.....

Good luck.

Hello Hobbes,

I'm also building a SCADS Carrier version of the Colombo express.
I'm delighted to see I'm not alone to work on this idea, and would enjoy to share ideas.

I've chosen a pair of Phalanx (Pit Road), plus four 30mm guns (scratchbuilt from WW2 guns), four F35 B and an Osprey (Pit Road).

Here are some pictures. As I've just registered on this forum I'll create a post for my boat and leave this one to yours !

My whole project is shown on my blog :

I like the "dry dock" you have for it, good thinking.

I've a question. Are many of the containers separate or are they all molded in groups and you have to cut them apart?
I hope you are still working on this. This has great potential.

The containers are in blocks, so there's a lot of cutting and gluing ahead.

hi there.......this is a sweet looking build!  I've not seen these kits before.....are they relatively new? what does SCADS stand for?  I haven't done plastic in a while.....guess I'll have to look into what I have been missing :)

Hobbes

Yep, it's a Revell (Germany) kit that's been out for 2 years, I think. SCADS = Shipborne Containerized Air Defence System, this was a concept studied in the UK to temporarily convert a container ship into a Harrier carrier.

Popeye

oh......so it's a conceptive apocalyptic support ship!  Kool!  I'll really be looking in on this one now.  thanks for filling me in.......I am a fan of Revell....used to do a lot of the Monogram  AMT and MPC kits

Think 'Atlantic Conveyor' on steroids and you won't be far wrong.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Our militaries better look into this seriously if they ever expect to fight a war on the budgets they are being given.

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

Hobbes

Stalled. I've got the hull mostly done, but then some other projects moved to the head of the build queue.
