Mmmm what about a Ju88? Think it might last longer than a Ju52 and certainly longer than a Me323....although think of the stuff you could fire out of the Me323.....I read that in the Med theatre medium bomber pilots got a few kills against these lumbering giants using the useful forward firing .50's they all seemed to carry.....

Found a pic of one being shot up on axishistory.com but again my skills let me down n I can't post it......
BODY,BODY....HEAD..!!!!

How about some WWII versions of the AC-47 mounting a battery of .50 cal & 20mm oilerikons on a C-47 or navy R4D or das luftwaffe gunship out of a Ju-52 or a Me323 Gigant? or a modern USN gunship for support of mariene landings usung a C2 Greyhound

In the early days of the gunship program, some AC-47s DID fly with 10 x .50 cals, because they couldn't get their hands on enough miniguns.

Maybe a C-160 Transall could be converted to a gunship? Once the A400Ms are in Luftwaffe service, how about some Transalls kept back and converted for special forces support? Or a South African Transall gunship?

Just to be a little silly - how about the Airbus A380 - then you could have two full gun decks!!

A-380 Gunship:huh: Nah, A-380 Galleon!

Now that would be something to see. A fullbraodside of 18pdrs at every window!!!

Scarily, I went into a toyshop this afternoon, and they had the Revell 1/144th A380 on the shelf, right next to a couple of Heller 1/200th galleons.....

It's like the Universe wants us to do it, man.........

You know if you put great battleship gun turrets on the A-380, the C-5 Galaxy, the An-124 and took out the ability to use laser range finding and guided munitions...

I've had a Ju-52 3/M night gunship planned for some time, going to put a late-war Wehrmacht IR illuminator and scope in the dustbin and a gun package similar to an early AC-47.

This talk of flying battleships has given me another idea though...

B747-400 with the aft section of the raised forward fuselage replaced by a twin 8" turret similar to the one use on the French Submarine Surcouf. Maybe modify the tail like the NASA Shuttle carrier? Hmmm... got to dig up my references and see how the scale would work out.

Some time ago I proposed a Beech SNB/JRB with side-firing 75mm pack howitzer devised by some enterprising US Marine to knock out pillboxes and caves on Okinawa.  Would use a ring-and-bead style sight with the ring mounted near the port wingtip.  I almost built this one, but demurred after realizing that I would have to scratch-build the pack-howitzer.

I'd be up for this as well.  I have two potential donors for this sucker.  One would be sort of ordinary, but the other could be interesting.  ;)
