Battlecarrier Query

Hey Guys, because of the game 'Naval Ops Warship Gunner' I'm wondering if the Ship type called a 'Battlecarrier' was ever studied or was it just a Designer's Whif Dream?? would the Battlecarrier be Something to Whif or Not?? i ask because I'm Curious & want to know if there are Any Models on the Market of such a Thing?? thanks for looking. I have a book full of proposed battlecarrier designs, "The Hybrid Warship". It contains battlecarrier concepts from pre-war, to some rather outlandish Soviet post-war designs right up to aviation-capable Spruances. I wholeheartedly recommend it!

IIRC, you'll find the "Delaware class battlecarrier" in the Soviet Navy section because it was proposed for the Soviets before the latter invaded Poland.

With the exception of the Ise class, you'll have to do a lot of scratch-building to create in plastic the battlecarriers in the game.

It has been looked at repeatedly, and rejected pretty much every time (the only possible exception being the Kiev class aviation cruisers). The reason was quite elegantly demonstrated by an RN officer: you could get more guns at sea and more aircraft at sea by building separate ships. Unfortunately, I can't find the quote right now, but the numbers worked out very nicely.

What's the manpower requirement of the Kiev class cruisers compared to seperate ships in the West?

According to Wikipedia, the crew complement of a Kiev-class vessel was 1200-1600 (including the air wing).
