How does the Ministry of Defence make money in this day and age?

Memphis Belle was filmed just down the road at RAF Binbrook not long after it closed.  A lot of my 6th form mates were extras in the film (one is now a real RAF pilot).

Apparently the Officer's Mess at RAF Halton is THE place to do filming, something to do with the Great Hall and the staircase there I think. Even recent Bond films have used it!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model
