Made an awful mess of this one! Started with a dodgy paint job, tried using promodeller wash for the first time ( an unmitigated disaster!), mucked up the decals for SEAC and so have since done it as a Dutch aircraft, mucked them up too! Oh well... time to make another and give this one to the target range!

Doesn't look too bad.  What are the probelms with Promodeller washes?  I've just bought a few but haven't used them in anger yet.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I found them to be hard to use, they don't seem to cling to panel lines etc but pool in places and they are bitty, you can almost feel the grains in the wash. thought to be fair a friend of mine has a set and they are not like mine at all so it may be a batch thing and i just have a duff lot !!!!

Thanks Tim, I'll start a new thread on it so as not to hijack Deon's thread.

Really too bad about the paint/decal. I know the feeling--ALL the work that went into it up to that point, then "spoiling" it at the last minute. But, like a room of a house, it can all go away with PAINT!!

Painting (and markings), to me, is the fun of modeling anyway, so I would recommend that you consider your botched attempts as "Fun #1" and go on with "Fun #2". Once the primer goes on over it and obscures all the mistakes of the past, you have a new "canvas" to work with!
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

I thought it looked realistically weathered, actually.  I'd keep this one if it was on my own shelf but, to each his/her own, I suppose.

One way to recover the decals would be to drybrush some of the base colour over the decals, then the holes in them would like natural wear.  I've done this before, you've just got be careful round the edges of the decals as they will show up if you brush over them.

Ive already given it a good sanding; I did sort of like the worn appearance as the decals wore away but its going to be redone as  a Spiteful FR2 of some obscure African origin, a good excuse to get those ZoTZ decals going. Removed the clumsy armament  already and disassembled the u/c for repainting and reinforcing. next job to mask up the office windows and get a nice pale primer coat.  I need to come up with a decent scheme for a 50 - 60s fighter in Africa, I was thinking of PR blue undersides with a medium green upper sort of similar to the SEAC schemes for Aussie a/c in ww2

PRU Blue goes very nicely with a Dark Green/Dark Earth top scheme.  And don't follow the WWII disruptive pattern - have a look at the Tempests and Spitfires in Palestine with that odd desert scheme.  The pattern is completely different.

I'm at work at the mo...another 12hrs n deep joy...my draconial web marshall does not allow us to view all pics so I had a look on my iphone....looks like a good paint job/fine to me...a well worn aircraft.....more I zoom in the pic blurs...

Yeah, I don't know that it's a disaster at all.  A little dirt, maybe a plain oil wash, and you've got yourself a well-weathered beauty there.
