The Record free fall made by Joseph Kittinger on August 16, 1960, he jumped from the Excelsior III balloon at 102,800 ft (31.33 km ), and fell for 4 minutes and 36 seconds reaching a maximum speed of 614 mph (988 km/h), before opening his parachute at 14,000 ft. (4.267,2 meters).

I think a diorama of the moment were he steps of the edge would be cool

I would love to do that jump!

It would have been even better if he was wearing one of those Birdman jump suits with the flaps between the arms and the legs.

Grayman posted a link to a fantastic walkaround of the Caspian Sea Monster, thought it'd make a fantastic diorama with Anigrand's 1/144 Lun.  The general look of neglect would be difficult to pull off, but amazing when done.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Diorama idea that I'll never get around to:

Preiser make some good novelty figures in 1/72ndish, including a seated fairy and a mermaid. So, get a floatplane: doesn't matter what model, but it needs to be a biplane with two open seats and two floats, and the more rickety-built-in-a-shed-looking the better. Replace the engine with a glowing green globe, probably made from a Christmas light, with loads of extra steampunk plumbing around it. Then put the plane in a diorama, just touching the shore of an impossibly jewelled beach (glitter powder from the craft store). The pilot is looking up open-mouthed at a fairy sat on the top wing, and ignoring the passenger who's tapping him on the shoulder, but looking sideways at a mermaid sat on the back of one float.

Caption: "It became immediately apparent that the mysterious new engine had done a lot more than just make them go faster......."    ;D

If you had bigger fingers and a deeper wallet, you could do it in 1/48th: who's to say how big fairies and mermaids are anyway? ;)

Edit: they're 1/87th:

And from the "you couldn't make it up" pile:

Quote
ARLINGTON, Va. — Could parachute-wearing bears sniff out Osama bin Laden?

That's one suggestion the Pentagon has received from someone who noted, quite correctly, that a bear's sense of smell is much more powerful than a bloodhound's.

"Overnight, Parachute some bears into areas [bin Laden] might be," the innovator wrote. "Attempt to train bears to take off parachutes after landing, or use parachutes that self-destruct after landing."

I dare someone to do the diorama...... (not volunteering to be the loadmaster in the C-130 though....)

I've always wanted to do this one.

Just the Migs on the apron.  Got to find a cheap Mig kit with a decent tail.
