Fokker D.XXIII

I'm a bit of a late starter, but Christmas has got in the way.  Despite deciding months ago what I was going to build, I've taken a woman's prerogative () & changed my mind.   I'm going to kill two birds with one stone & build my kit that I got for the SIG Pegasus GB kindly provided by Colin of Freightdog.  It'll be modified with winter fit & probably with Kestrel engines, possibly Merlins.  Scheme I'm pretty much decided on, but I'll keep under my hat for now (not Dutch or Finnish & probably won't be snow camouflage).  I might even attempt a small diorama!

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Oh nice one! I'm considering one of these in Finnish markings with skis for this GB too, so now I can do it last of the three projects and let you find all the problems with it first!  (joke)

Mine won't have different engines though: it's intended to be a quick'n'simple job.

Yeah, probably.  I took a trip to my local Hobbycraft today & spent a voucher I got for Chrimble on some fake snow despite there being plenty of the real stuff around today, the reason I could go as we got sent home early, yay!  Also picked up an Airfix Defiant, I might use the nose as a basis for the Kestrel.  The Defiant kit barely represents a Merlin but that should work for me as with a bit of putty I should be able to shape it into something that looks close enough to a Kestrel.

I was pointed in the right direction of a resin Miles Master (actually a M.24 Master Fighter) by Lee (the whiffer formerly known as The Wooksta) at Telford, but I don't want to hack it up as it looks like a nice kit & has good whiffing potential.  It actually gives me a good template to work to & I should hopefully get a reasonable representation.  Kestrel XV's were proposed amongst others as an alternative to the Walter Sagitta IS-R's.  Merlins were also proposed as a later development & I might go with those if I have a any trouble recreating the Kestrel.

The colour scheme will be high-viz (although as mentioned previously, not actually a winter scheme) & should contrast nicely with the snow in the diorama.

I think I can manage this one, but I've said that before....  Seriously, this shouldn't be too difficult.  I've got a more simple fall back if it all goes t!ts up.

I've just looked back at the date I last finished a build & it's the 1WGB, six months ago.  I've started four since then, although two are on the back burner because of the GB's I've comitted myself to.  I've hit a wee bit of a slump again & tiredness from long journeys to work isn't helping, but I should be able to get out of this.

There, got the excuses out of the way before I start!

Knickers!  Me too (Merlins, that is)!!  Bum!!!  Back to the drawing board, then - aaargh!!!!  Maybe as a single-Merlin job, then - a sort of a Dutch sawn-off P-38 (a Fokker DXXIII Bliksem, if you like).  Maybe I'll just send Colin the money and build it straight instead.  Woe is me!   ;D ;D

There were quite a few options looked at real world.  The Hispano Suiza 12Xcrs & Jumo 210G were others looked at early on, with the Merlin & DB601 later.  There was even a Japanese version, the Mitsubishi Type 0 that would have used Mitsubishi Kinsei powerplants, a possible for nevs Operation Downfall mini-theme for Telford.  Another possibility might be a RR Peregrine?

Cool idea, Monsieur Mossie.  Looking forward to more of this one.

This ones on the back burner for now.  Part of this was due to a modelling block earlier in the year, I just couldn't kick my backside into gear.  Part of it is I've realised that Revell are re-releasing the Matchbox Hawker Fury, so I'll have a source for the Kestrel without having butcher my resin Miles Master Fighter kit, or hack plastic to extremes.

I haven't neglected this GB, I've refurbed a model which is awaiting pictures, should get them up in a few days or so.
