Hey Guys, Just had an Idea:What If there were a 'Gerry Anderson' Style Mobile Hangar Vehicle for Launching Fighters,Bombers, Etc.??????? I'm Talking like a Scud Misslie or Other type Launch Vehicle for Such a Use. What Do you think????????? Thanks for Looking. Dan

What are you thinking of? A vehicle for ZELL (rocket-assisted launch), or a hangar/maintenance facility?

Is that meant to fly over the aircraft to shelter it from sudden rainstorms?!

I've got a copy of the old Dougram 'Eye-van' kit in 1/72nd scale that I am planning to use for just such an idea.

This is the 1/144th die-cast version, but you get the idea.

It's supposed to be a transporter and support vehicle for giant mecha, but it seemed perfect for a mobile launcher or ZELL truck; I just have to figure out what's going in it. Currently the plan is a folding-wing F-107.

They also did a straight flat-bed transporter version, but I've never been able to get my grubby hands on one of those.  :banghead:

If the Gerry Anderson GB ever gets the go-ahead, my entry will be something along these lines....

I've often thought that ZELL would be a good mix with vectored-thrust vertical landing. V/STOL aircraft are at their worst at take-off where their restrictive MTOs count against them, but ZELL would eliminate that. The traditional problem of a CTOL ZELL aircraft is that it can't land near the launcher, but this is easy for a V/STOL, which is at it's best when light on fuel and weapons at the end of a sortie. Call it RATOVL: Rocket Assisted Take-Off, Vertical Landing.

i think Revell released the Takara kits under a 'robotech' name back in the 80's, a few interesting kits amongst them inc the big transporter as shown, a 4 legged walker as well as a really neat attack helo

cheers, joe

I used one of the Revell kits of this vehicle on my Sci Fi diorama a few year ago.  Here it is with a Herb Deeks resin "Flash Gordon" spaceship on it.  Obviously both have rather spurious markings and colors.

It was a pretty good kit.  It fit fairly well and only needed a few details added.  It's interesting since the trailer bed is designed to open and has a support to hold one of the fighting suits of the same series for repairs.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

Ed,
I would love to see that dio up close.  FedUp, I would love to find all the little inside jokes in there.
