Hello... It's to make a Delta III, particularly the air intakes . How did you do that? enterely from scratch or slaughtering a kit as basis?

The kit was based upon the Heller Mirage IV that was warped, when the fwd fuselage was dry fitted together the the rear end would had a gap in of about 2 cm !!!, so i decided to try another FD-III.

the wing roots insided the fuselage were filled with Milliput then once dry the roots were removed. The fwd fuselage was revised to wided the cockpit to side by side seating and the front cockpit was platted other to create the nose. The fwd fuselage had a wedge of plastic card added to increse the warp effect so the rear fuselage would match the drawings. the uper fuselage had a wedge of 1mm deep plastic card inserted and the lower fuselage had a new section made from lamintaed plastic card to fill the space left by the lower wing section of the Mirrage IV kit. The rear was extended using PVc tube and end plates fitted from a cheap Mig-31 kit along with their exhaust cans.

Wings and fin were created from laminated Plastic card along with new intakes. Plenty of filler being used to blend the whole lot together. Nose was from an Phantom kit and canopy was created from scratch.

As to the resin kit ever coming out, your guess is as good as mine. !!!!!!!!

so you used a Mirage IV as basis... good idea! with the Arrow, its the most "similar" plane to the  Delta III... the Delta III canopy is a real nightmare for the modelers, but also for a pilot! As for the Arrow, better canopies would have been set up in the sixties...
I think if I made a Delta III from a Mirage IV one day, I will stay with the V windshield of the bomber (of course, not very realistic but much more simple )
I afree Heller Mirage IV kit is not very, very good and need a lot of rework. Didn't know that the Delta III had side-by-side seating...

ill try get my butt in gear and get a release batch cast up (soo much other stuff on the go at the moment!)

theres actually 2 resin kits for release, the first has a 'droop snoot', wheel bays, detailed cockpit, etc. to build a detailed replica of the type, the second providing an accurate outline shape in a 'display model' style, ie wheels up and closed

ill start taking orders for them at the end of April, price tbd. but probably around £20.00 (it takes a lot of resin!)

The Red Hebe is based upon a 1/48 Sparrow with the fins replaced.

This simply reveal how big the Red Hebe was... as big in 1/72 scale as a AIM-7 in 1/48!!!!

So, is the resin cast of the FDIII still available?

Just assembling another scratch built /kit bash Fairey Delta III and have reached the point of details and colour scheme. How should i proceed ? - i already have a NMF in 92 Sqdn markings and thought perhaps i should do this one as a later fit and colour scheme.



The question is which ?

• NMF as per the cover of BSP: Fighters
• Dark Grey/Dark Green Camo over Light Aircraft Grey (late 60's - full colour roundels)
• Dark Grey/Dark Green Cammo over Light Grey (mid 70's - tactical roundels
• Air Defence Greys & Low Vis roundels(>1979)

The scheme will dictate what sort of Pylons, Weapon load and decals i will need to consider so i thought i would check out what you guys think (Any mention of Maple leaf will result in automatic deletion    you guys can much about with the Arrow instead   )

The core of this build was a warped Heller Mirage IV kit, when it met at the nose it created a massive gap at the rear end which would need some work to get them to meet, i just happened to have BSP:Fighters at hand noticed the cover and had a lightbulb moment !. Checking the plans i found if i inserted a proper wedge i cound get the basic shape for the FD3, the nose is adapted from an older Phantom kit, the cockpit may be from a two seat hunter, back end was created around one of those naff Kitech Mig-25 clones. Intakes, Wing and Fin are scratch built from Plastic card.

A word of note later data indicates that the main undercarriage was held within the wing rather than the Fuselage as i did on my model

Thanks.  I was thinking about using a cheap Kifu MiG25.  Might need to see if I can find a "warped Mirage IV" or something similar.
