I bought my home on Cub Lake in 2002. My parents owned it in the 1960s-70s and sold it. I was able to buy it back ( " I have returned" : ) ).  Going thru the crawlspace/unfinished basement- I found a footlocker. When I opened it- It had several Revell/Aurora/other model ships I built as a kid while there!  It was a treasure chest to me!

In it, amongst 3 Revell 1/720 Essex and 3 Revell Alabamas, etc, etc, was an Aurora 1/600 USS ST Paul CA- damaged ( 40mm AA broken, missing 8 in turret, etc ) So- I'm thinking of rebuilding it as a Wif CAG circa 1980s.

Does anyone know if anyone builds 1:600 parts suitable for some sort of rebuild? I'm thinking Harpoon, Tomahawk ABLs, CIWs, etc????

Failing that- could I rebuild it into a Wif by redesignating it 1:700 as some sort of fictional CA????

Ideas/thoughts/ comments welcome!

The Zhengdefu/Kittech SpruCan motorised kits are actually about 1/576 scale and include an up scaled copy of the Pitroad USN kit which should prove an ideal cheap source of parts for upgrading the St Paul. Unfortunately the kit being motorised is about a 1cm too wide to use as an actual Spruance/Tico class, but the masts etc may come in handy. White Ensign Models do some update sets for the Airfix Kits that could be used on the St Paul.

All my 1/600 get scale-o-ramaed into 1/700, so I'd go with maybe a tower and stack from the SoDak (making it a single stack cruiser, ala Alaska and Des Moines), and make it a "Large Cruiser" with 9" guns (the guns pretty much rescale to that size), and 16 Harpoons, and an equal number of ABL Tomahawks.  2-3 Phalanx, maybe two IPDMS, landing pad for helos, maybe four dual 5" turrets, and with the missing aft main turret, maybe even a hangar for helos.

Would look great in my fleet  ;D
