Well, she's not exactly a whiff, but there are enough significantly lost/changed details, she almost qualifies.  This is the only ship model I've ever finished.  It was fun, but I'm not sure it's my bag.  But I am pleased with the results:

That's AWESOME!!!!!

Of course, I'm referring to the base.  The Slava's nice and all, but that base is cool   ;D

How'd you make that?  I have fleets of ships that are crying out for at sea dioramas.

Really nice

Every year I look at the ship models at SMW in awe and think...this year

Jolly nice job!  The sea dio and the landing Helix really make it come alive!

Must, then, my projects bend to the iron yoke of a mechanical system? Is my soaring spirit to be chained down to the snail's pace of matter?

Excellent job, and the sea base is really nicely done!

I just used some transparent paintable latex caulking.  I glued the waterline base to my board, slathered a little Pam cooking oil on the hull of the ship, and squeezed the caulking out.  I textured it with a toothpick, going back several times as the caulking cured.  Once it was cured, I took the ship off, slipping it out of the caulk, and then I just laid down some transparent oil washes with greens and blues (artists' oil paints).  I use this alkyd medium called liquin to speed up the drying on the oil paint. The clear caulk makes the top layer of the 'water' seem transparent.  For the waves, I just dabbed on some white paint, building it up slowly.

It really is extremely simple.  I would suggest getting some clear caulking, and just fiddle around with it.  It's pretty cheap stuff.  Just make sure to use transparent blues and greens, so you get that watery look.  I'm building another base for a PCF patrol boat, and making the muddy river is much, much more challenging.

In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.
