Ideally, I'm after the fuselage and glazing for one of these.  It mightn't be what I need for a Bf 162 (possible cross sectional differences) but it's a good starting point.  My other option is an Airfix Mosquito nose but I've millions of those!

Not bothered how far gone it is as I plan on doing some heavy sanding.

TIA

I don't think a Pe-2 would get you close enough. The ideal Bf-162 is merely a Monogram (1/72) Bf-110 with rounded (slightly extended) wingtips, shortened dorsal glazing, and a clear glazing underneath the nose (vac-formed clear from kit nose). You would need two Bf-109C's for the engine nacelles, and take out the underwing radiators.

I know. I made one myself decades ago:

The Pe-2 has a flattened-oval fuselage and other things "wrong" with it to imitate a RW Bf-162, but if you made it a Bf-162 "D" or something, you could "explain" the new look!

I like the Bf-162. I have a 1941 British paperback history about the Battle of Britain that has an illustration of the "Jaguars", as they were known. It also had a Heinkel 113, both of which were German propaganda and did NOT enter combat over Britain, contrary to this contemporary report.

I managed to find a 3 view of the Bf 162 on t'interweb and it's longer than a 110.  Well, once I blew it up it looks longer, at least a cm.  Not sure where the extension is but I suspect the cockpit area.

I dropped a Mosquito nose over the plan and it looks close to the mark, at least with a bit of filler and sanding (on reflection, I have several resin radar noses for the Mosquito which would be a good start).  May actually go with a solid nose and lots of radio gear as a spoofer (KG66 pathfinder in the same scheme worn by their Ju 188s?).  I'd go with the later 110C/D engines or maybe the DB605s from a G and the larger tailfins too.

Nice model.  I knew I'd seen one somewhere!

According to my sources, the Bf-162 V2 was 2 feet longer than a Bf-110F. I had forgotten, last night when I made my post, that I had added FOUR feet to the Bf-110 and only AFTER I had it all done had I realized I had added too much. I laboriously added length to the fuselage just at the trailing edges of the wing. I also puffed out the fuselage sides a bit with putty, to make the overall taper the same.  If I were to do it again I would instead add the length near the tailplanes, using the skinnier Fujimi Bf-110 as an extension (I had every 1/72 Bf-110 model to draw from--Airfix, FROG, Monogram, Matchbox, and Fujimi---the Monogram--now Revell--one was the best overall). If you don't have the Fujimi kit, you could probably make a tail extension from another Monogram kit, and "hide" the extension and putty under the tailplanes.

I've just dropped an Airfix Mosquito over the plan and it looks like I can use the cockpit section with some judicious sanding.

I've a plan involving a cut and shut - horizontal cut along the fuselage above the wingroot, move it back the requisite scale 2 fee and fill underneath.  Add Mosquito front end, fill and lots of sanding.  The Airfix plastic is quite thick so I should be able to get away with it.

Do I dare butcher the new Airfix Bf 110?

Looking at the drawing, I'd guess that Messerschmitt kept the fuselage taper and just moved the fuselage back a section.  The extension is around the cockpit area but hidden by the wider front end and the wingroots.

I think you are on the right track, and will have a good approximation of a Bf-162. This is, after all, WHIFF-land, and, in the final analysis, ANYTHING goes.

The Bf-162 had a quite different undernose glazing than the Mosquito. I am curious how that might look on your Bf-162, or are you going to do a "solid" nose?

BTW, here is the illustration from the old "Official British Air Ministry" account of the Battle of Britain I had:

This has too much glazing (the top of the nose was solid on the Bf-162) and doesn't show the small under-wing radiators, but otherwise it got it right!

Frank2056 has a Fujimi Bf-110 listed on his for sale page at $10.

Some of the bomber Mosquitos, particularly the Oboe equipped B.IX and B.XVIs had the nose glazing replaced with metal or painted over.  That's what I think I'll aim for.

Jschmus, I'm going to gowith the new Airfix kit.  It'd be cheaper -foreign currency conversion and postage would bump the price up too much.  I've already some 110 wreckage to use as prototype

I've got a airfix Pe-2 if you still want one Lee, I could drop it off at Franks.

Cheers, Steve, but I'll be going with an Airfix Mosquito for the front end. I've plenty to hand in case I make a horlicks of it.  TBH, even if I only use the Tse-TseFly nose I could bollards it up several times and still have spares to do it again.

As I'll be going with a Mosquito for the nose section, I have no requirement now for a PE2 so the topic is now closed.

Many thanks to those who offered some assistance.
