A few that come to mind for the US Coast Guard:

1. Salvage tug.  Great for Alaska work.  The real ALEX HALEY is a ex US Navy salvage tug doing great work for the USCG now.  The USS Grasp class would be a good candidate.
2. Amphibious tractor for the surf zone salvage/rescue work.  DUK-W for 1950'-s to 1960's era.  Many kits to choose from.  More modern could be the LARC-V or an LCAC.  LCAC comes in 1/444 and 1/72.
3. Airborne.  CH-53 for heavy lift, towing (it could tow a disabled vessel to safe waters).  Many kits to choose from in a few scales.

Might be a way to get some more use out of the Glomar Explorar.

Especially if you need to try and recover a sub or something.
