In 1999, the NSF high command requested a proposal for a high speed long range reccon aircraft.  The machine was to be able to fly to any given point on the Earth, fly back half way and get refueled.  Highest possible speed was desired.

Pointed-End Aircraft Co. submitted this design, which was accepted.  One prototype was built, and it was found that it was much too large for the job, took too many material to build and speed and range weren't there.  It featured a two-man crew.

Relagated to SASA (Soviet Air and Space Agency) as a chase plane for the Archangel shuttles, this aircraft, unnammed, still gives sterling service.

A second design was submitted a few years later (5 to be exact), which benefitted from every technological advance made since.

It was small, combining long range, low-observability, supercruise and ease of maintenance.  No vertical surfaces were present, keel stability being provided by the fuselage.  With more powerful computers being available, the crew could be restricted to one pilot.

Known as the R-8 Ghost, it's the mainstay of the NSF recce force.
