Definitely not as menacing as a Jolly Rodger but still cool!

Could try using the "dazzled ships design" of world war 1.

History note: VFA-131 "The Wildcats" and VFA-132 "The Privateers" were commissioned with the introduction of the Hornet into the fleet.  VFA-132 didn't survive the defense cutbacks of the 1990's.  Similarly VF-1 and VF-2 were commissioned when the Tomcat joined the fleet and VF-1 was lost as well during the cutbacks.  Two squadrons that definitely had some nice looking markings.  Would of been nice to see them on some Super Bugs *sigh*
