One of my childhood dreams is a F-14 converted into side-by-side seating with two chin gun turret arranged like a pair of aerodynamic strakes or the lift augment devices under the Harrier jump jet....... another is one outfitted with a dorsal turret like Boulton Paul P.92 or even a pillbox-like machinecannon battery.

Look at the VF-1 Valkyrie variable fighters from Macross - they have head-mounted guns (either cannons or lasers) in "battroid" (ie robot) mode, that can be used as turrets when in fighter mode. As the VF-1 is heavily influenced by the F-14, that might be a good starting point.
