I got the Pit-Road Yamagumo kit yesterday. I'm really pleasantly surprised at the quality. I was ready to order a modern weapons set, when I noticed all the parts on the sprue that are not used in either ship. They include a 76mm Oto-Melara (round turret) and what looks like a 76mm Oto Melara in the "stealthy" turret as well as a 127mm Oto Melara (or Otobreda?) in a stealthy turret. There are also two 3" cannons in what looks like the old US Navy style turrets and two Phalanx  CIWS and other weapons I'm not familiar with. One even looks like an SM-2 missile.

Thats their JMSDF modern equipment sprue thats included with all their later JMSDF kits.
Most of the Pitroad & Dragon kits have one of the Pitroad weapon sprues for the various details.#

If you're looking at the same sprue I am, that's in my Yamagumo box, and likely you are, you're looking at a few things:

CH-47 Sea Knight
AH-1 Cobra
SH-60 Blackhawk

2x Twin 3"/50 enclosed turrets (55/56)
2x Mk45 Lightweight 5"/54 guns (57/58)
1x Oto Melara "Compact" 5" (26/27)
2x Mk42 5"/54 Automatics (7/8)
1x Mk16 "Matchbox" ASROC (3/4)
1x Mk25 Sea Sparrow Box (1/2)
1x Oto Breda 3"/76 gun (5/6)
1x Mk29 Evolved Sea Sparrow (29/30)
1x Mk13 SM-1/2 Launcher (12-15, Missile is 11)
2x Mk141 Harpoon Quad Tubes (16/17)
2x Phalanx (20)
1x Bofors 375mm Rocket Launcher (9/10)

That's the weapons and helicopters.  Hope that helps.

I've got a pair of Yamagumos, and I'm rebuilding one right now, got it built from a friend, and a second one unbuilt.  Thinking two variants, and it's such a nice, cute, small little hull... very nice piece.

Thanks Sauragnmon and Thorvic - That's the sprue I have. It really makes this kit a good deal!

I love Pit-road, I get more and more of those sprues in every one of their kits

There's a few variations on it too, one coming with a P-3, and another coming with an SH-3 (could be the same sprue, don't have it in front of me).

I actually have both of those variations - from what I hear, the oldest one had the P-3, and also the SH-3.  That one lacks the 3" twins, the Mk45, the SH-60, a number of radars and the SH-60.  The SH-3 in the sprue is taken up by the 5" Oto Melara, and other systems, in the later sprues.  There's a version that has the SH-60 and SH-3 as well, which I have.

I agree, I love Pit-Road for the use of those sprues, they're so very helpful like that.

Well, this thread has been on long term nuclear deterrent patrol, apparently...

Anyways, no pics, but some updates.

In the last month, I've picked up some new toys, including pretty much all of the new tool USN Cold War surface ships and two LCS-2's.

As for the Long Beach, I'm going to build her up as a proper refit (with VLS) to the CSGN mod (becoming USS Hampton Roads CSGN-16).  As for the old Jag one, that one will get a build up similar to that CSGN that... dangit, forgot his name... the Civilization mod guy... you know who I'm talking about...  It'll come to me eventually...  Anyway, since it's got the first few levels of superstructure modeled in, it's getting a modified CSGN refit.  She'll become USS Brandywine CSGN-13.  I think I'm going to get a few more of the plastic Long Beach's so that each of my Enterprise class can have a Long Beach as their dedicated escorts  ;D

The Virginia class CGN I bought is getting the full on CGN-42 build (with VLS) to become USS Kansas CGN-44.

The two LCS-2's I've got I'm going to have some fun with.  They'll become USS Charlevoix LCS-18 and USS Grindstone LCS-24.  I've been playing with making them into makeshift light carriers, with six Harriers parked on the aft deck, angled outward for quick launch close to shore.  Makes for some fun Whiffing.

I picked up one of those Burke/Typhoon two-packs as well.  The Burke is going to either the RAN or Canadian Navy, while the Typhoon may become some sort of submersible carrier.  Will make more sense if I buy another one and elongate the Typhoon.

Also decided on a few other builds for the subs I've got in the stash.  I've got a Seawolf class that will become the USS Vanguard SSN-25.  And then there's the ancient two packs of a George Washington class SSBN and a Soviet Echo II SSGN.  The subs in each will be combined with themselves to make a massive SSBN (like early Ohio for the GW) and a massive, really noise super Echo.  The remains will be built into coastal patrol subs.  The LA I've got in the stash is going to Canada.

Ant how about getting the 1/350 version, removing the super structure and scaleorama it into a trimaran STOVL carrier in 1/700 ?

Now that's a good idea, Geoff.....

Sounds like you're going to be a busy boy, Comrade ! You ever finish any of the other ones ? You must have more ships by now than your 'real' Navy, eh ?

And, elongating a Typhoon to make a submersible carrier.....sounds interesting !?!

Geoff, been thinking about it, but the beam on a 1/700 is as wide as a flipping Iowa class ship(!), but having said that, a 1/350 one scale-o-ramaed into 1/700 would be cool.  Mod it up similar to the old Avpro concept for a trimaran.

Toad, no, they're all in storage as the new shipyard has yet to be set up at Fort Pakizer.  I'm still undecided as to what room is going to be the hobby room.

Hi Ant

Thats what i was thinking, the 1/350 LCS2 would be twice as big as the 1/700 variant, but scalarama means the 1/350 hull would be only STOVL carrier size in length but the wider hull would make an ideal hanger and flight deck for STOVL aircraft. Must admit the the Avpro concept was the inspiration behind the idea.

Actually, I've been giving the scale-o-ramaed 1/350-to-1/700 LCS-2 some thought.  How about that BAE Systems UXV concept ship that looked like a Zumwalt class had it's pants torn in two?

Might look better as a trimaran, in my opinion.  Would balance things out.  As it stands, it looks too much like something I did in 8th grade (sorta like a dual landing supercarrier, just add all sorts of inane and stupid stuff like SLBM launchers, and docks for it's escort of two SSN's...  it was for a school project.  Somewhere I've got it.  Even had a USS Reagan, a decade and a half before the Reagan even existed (I think I made her a Nimitz modified too ;D ); it was 1987).

Dangit, now I NEED to find that old school project.  It was for an advanced class where we really didn't have a set course schedule, rather it was the Smart Kids (tm) class where we could use our imaginations.  I did a weekly mag for one project called "Warships Weekly" based on Sea Classics.

Ah, warped, distorted, odd memories.
