Jersey Boys, Number 2

Here are photos of the second of my alternate history "Jersey Boys" - a ship task group based on changes to the development of USN vessels in the Steel era.

I don't have the alternate history on this computer, so I'll just post the photos and some notes, then add the history later.

Alternate history - following the Sara and Lex battle carriers (the same as in our universe) the USN continues to arm carriers with cruiser-class guns, though 6" instead of the 8" of the first pair. Ranger has eight singles, Wasp six, the Hornet class 8 again, then came the Ticonderoga class with an even dozen - two triples fore and aft of the island, and 6 singles, two starboard and four port.

For anti-aircraft, the class carries 2 twin 5"/38 mounts above the triple 6", twelve 3", and fourteen quadruple 1.1" "Chicago Pianos".

Their primary armament, however, is their aircraft. USS Princeton's airgroup was multi-national, a result of the Allies' efforts to share resources and co-operate their forces. On board at this time were two 12 plane squadrons of USN Avenger torpedo bombers, three 18 plane squadrons, two USN and one USMC, of Corsair fighter-bombers, one 12 aircraft group of RN Seafire fighters, tasked with CAP and quick reaction defense, 6 RAN Swordfish for ASW, and two SC-1 seaplanes for liason and rescue of downed pilots.

A carrier model is as much a base for its planes as it is a ship model. Without planes a carrier is basically a large lightly-armed freighter.

Love the carrier, and the coastal battleship just fascinates me.
