The Putnams book simply says that the aircraft was started in 1938 as a civil project for use in a high speed research programme. My own personal view is that the design similarities with the He-100 are down to the use of the same engine and an attempt to get a small an airframe as possible around that engine. There are a few record breakers of the period that look roughly the same. Different designers coming up with the same soloutions to the same problems ? It was the norm even before computer aided design took all the individuality out of the process. We will never really know how much direct influence the He-100 had on the design.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
