Tempest over Korea

Final one of the Tempests for now.  Promise!

Tempest F.II, based somewhere in Korea, 1950.

This is a converted Heller Tempest F.V.  I originally built this in late 1990 and it was stripped down sometime in 2006.  For some reason, I decided to convert it to a Tempest II with some home cast resin parts using the engine and leading edge root intakes from the Matchbox Tempest II as a master.  They fitted rather nicely.  The undercarriage was swiped from a Special Hobby Sea Fury - that can be replaced with an Aeroclub item.

Time for a scheme and markings.  I'd been wanting to do RAF types in Korean service sothis was an ideal start.  The wing stripes were stolen from the Trumpeter Sea Fury and went on with minimal fuss.  I wanted a kill marking but where do I get a red star small enough?  Russian markings for a P39!  So I bought a Hobbyboss P39 just for the decals and cut one of the red stars from the kill markings on that.

To be fair, many of these are about 3 years old.  They've surfaced now because I dragged out the Tempest box to photograph the 2 seat TF Fury.
