This is the MPM 1/72 kit of the Ryan XF2R-1 Dark Shark. The kit is a bit of a PITA. It has a nice photoetch fret, but the plastic needs some work to fit well. The original Dark Shark was a "one-off" variation of the FR-1 Fireball with a turboprop replacing the original radial engine along with the jet in the tail. Here I have it in USMC markings for a Korean War version.  I added a couple 11.75 inch Tiny Tim rockets to give it some "bang".

Enjoy.

We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

Nicely done! Those MPM kits can be tough.   I imagine they had to put the prop so far forward for weight and balance.

An armor guy, who builds airplanes almost exclusively, that he converts to space fighters-- all while admiring ship models.

Your model looks fantastic and that's a beautiful paint job! I've seen that kit in the bare plastic and it's no shake n' bake. The prop looks like it could have had a counter rotating prop behind it.

Nice model. I've always liked these Ryan designs. Built the Fireball myself. Took some effort but turned out all right in the end
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
