Area 88 was a Japanese Manga and TV show, which has apparently generated some aircraft kits in pure fantasy colour schemes (Aslan Air Force and Counter-Governmental Airforce), which come with 1/24th pilot figures to boot! Takara released 1/100th scale kits in the early 1980s and Hasegawa have released 1/144th and 1/72nd kits in the 1990s (I presume they are Japanese home-market only)

Go an download a copy of ZSNES (a super nintendo emulator for windows PC) and the rom of UN Squadron.
It's the english language name of the game based on Area 88.
And it rocks.
As does the noble beard of Greg Gates.
There are no good kits, bad kits or grail kits, just kitbash fodder.
