Late model Spitfires in 1/72nd?

A project I have in mind could really benefit from a late model Spitfire, like the 22 or 24, preferably a PR variant. I'm having trouble thinking of one, does anyone make such a beast?

Well that would certainly fit the requirement! I have an old completed Testors Mk22 up in the attic that I might strip and rework, but if it seems too much trouble the Hannant's one seems nice.

Admiral also have a F.24:


yes and no, the Special Hobby kit is the same mould origin as the Xtrakit one, the Admiral one is a different mould (I have the latter and it's not bad, haven't really looked at it yet)
It's not an effing  jump jet.

You do realise I have a vast list involving whiffed Spitfires of every mark?  There could be copyright issues!  ;D

The old Testors one is no comparison to the new Xtrakit one.  Night and day.  Apart from the fact the Testors one is rivetty, there's no wheel well or u/c, the tailfin is applicable only to the early F22s, radiators too small and wrong shape entirely, the wing is too thin. no cockpit interior at all. It's workable as a conversion fuselage to do the bubbletop F.14 if you use the wing from theHeller Spitfire 16, but it's still a fair bit ofwork to bring it up to 1970s standards, let alone todays.

The Admiral one is okay but it's £3 more expensive and the Xtrakit one is definitely the better kit - extra canopies (injected), both wheels, better cockpit detail and more decal options.  I have several of the former, one of the latter (plus numerous other kit makes of the F22) and I definitely want more.  I bought the Admiral ones as they were there but now wish I'd kept the money for the Xtrakit one.

I bought an AZ Mk.18 recently, and it's very nice indeed. I will be getting a couple of Xtrakit 22/24s as well. Though I still wish Airfix would scale down their 1:48 kit, as it looks lovely.
