Scratchbuilding starships

My view of Sci Fi space craft is look at what you've got to play with & let your imagination do the thinking!

To me SF is as much about art as it is about possibilities - I try to let my mind run free.

Bugger-all gets built but it's fun coming up with the ideas.

Yeah thats a part of the problem I see a wing and think "A wing! Maybe I can turn it and make forward swept wings?!" I don't think " A wing! it could be a deflector shield or a warp coil or robot armor!" LOL I see folks make starships with tanks and I need to see how they do it, because I don't think space hull I think "tank"

Well, if we look at this unfinished build for the Spacefighters II Comp at Starship Modeler, below, we see;



- most of the shell of a Spiderman toy car
- a couple of clear (photo) Christmas baubles
- parts of 3 toy guns
- parts of a Hot Wheels car launcher toy
- parts of 2 HMNoS St Albans kits (Airfix) (1/400?)
- parts of 2 1/76 StuG III's & a Matilda (Airfix)
- part of a 1/144 Jagdpanther
- some bits from an Airfix (HMS Sheffield?...edit: try Fearless ) assault support ship (1/400?)
- a couple of light fitting parts
- some PVC pipe; &
- some styrene stock
- 2 toy car "chrome" wheel hubs
- parts of a Bic cigarette lighter
- parts of a BBQ/gas stove lighter

The Spidey car suggested a space fighter (long before the comp) & the rest sort of grew from trying things out.
