Hey all:

The last couple of days have seen me score nicely at my local shops.

On thursday I picked up a complete IPMS Austria produced decal sheet covering various types and hada decent selection of codes and roundel sizes. I snapped it up for free as the shop was trying to get rid of the last of the decal sheets they had.

Today, at the other shop, I found a Tamiya 1/72 P-51D Mustang at a quite agreeable price considering that it was Tamiya.

For those who have been following my divided Austria alternate history; you can, at some point in the future, expect to see a West Austrian Mustang.

My East Austrian MiG-15 is coming together slowly but surely.

So, what was the last great deal you got at your local shop?

How good of a deal did you get on that P-51D?  My local store is only a HobbyTown USA (notorious for high prices) and I've seen Tamiya 1/72 P-51s for about $14-15.  A Tamiya 1/72 F4D Skyray sits right next to them for the same price yet they have a FW-190 as well for over $30....  Its odd how some are cheap (not on sale) yet others are ridiculously expensive when they are all the same scale and the same boxings (photo of the plane on a dark background).

Last deal I found there were Minicraft 1/144 USAF transports (C-54, Boeing Clipper, C-47, etc...) for %50 off on sale.  Guess no one wanted them for $25 and up.  Never understood how those kits are so expensive yet their bombers in the same scale are half that price and have more parts  :banghead:

One of the ones in my area (well, region - it's not that close) is pretty good for old kits - I've had some good prices on old Matchbox, Airfix and Frog kits, though nothing stupendous. I got a Revell F-16 two-seater from Modelzone for a fiver recently - that was pretty good. Also a Revell Mig 31 (£7.50 from Hobbycraft), Mig 1.44 MFI (£8 from a shop in Poole), Special Hobby Vengeance (£13 I think), and a Revell Fw200 Condor for £7 from TK Maxx recently. Nothing spectacular, but decent prices. I've also had some good deals on ebay, and from here!

I know how it feels Kit -- my LHS is a one-hour commercial jet flight away (so 2 hrs including signing in at the airport beforehand & travel to the shop at the other end).

When I lived within 20mins of a hobbyshop they gouged (double the proper price) on the latest kits -- if you waited for 4mths you could get them at the reasonable retail price  :-\ :-\
you may as well all give up -- the truth is much stranger than fiction.

WHAT? That's RIDICULOUS!  :banghead:

I thought I had it bad, but you really have a tough time, my commiserations.

I have one within walking distance, and at least ten more within an hour's drive, most of them very well stocked and... okay, I'll shutup now...  ;D

The internet is my LMS.  About the only things I buy locally nowadays are paint, glue and putty.   Many of my supplies come nowadays from the hardware shop - sandpaper, files and drills for example.
