Dear Boat People...and others.....I would request some help with dimensions on the Airfix 1/72 Vosper MTB. I am hoping to get one to use as part of a project. I would like to know how wide at its widest is the kit....I intend to use the front of this and scab/bolt/jam it onto a 1/35 Revell landing craft (50ft version....) that is going to be the basis for my 1/72 helicopter tender....similar to the Vietnam era Tango boat.....this is hopefully going to give it a more sea going hull than the landing craft which would have been a coast hugger anyway.....I think I have to add some fins or something similar underneath (hull/keel....?) to stabalise it....not really to worried about the real world sea handling characteristics....this will be for fun/visual effect.....many thanks in advance for any help......H

Don't know the answer to the question, but something immediately strikes me:

The Vosper has a VERY V-shaped hull which is going to be awkward to mate up with the dead square landing craft hull. Now if you were to start with the E-Boat instead, that has a much fuller, straight-sided hull shape that might be easier to work with.

Ah....yes.....point taken.........I think I was blinkered by using British kit that may have been 'discovered' on/around Malta......maybe an E-boat or two lying about could have used....ok cool,Weaver thanks for that.....anyone else who reads this the same question then but for either the Airfix E boat or Revell S-100 in 1/72 please.........

Hank,
I've built both the 'E' Boat and the S100, actually on my second S100, and the Airfix 'E' boat has the squarer hull cross section than the S100 which is a bit more rakish, so if it was me I'd go withthe 'E' boat. Besides both the E and the S100 were longet than the vospers by about 30 - 40 ft.

Hope this helps bud.

The Airfix 'E-Boat' (English designation) is an early series Schnellboot/S Boot (German designation) and the hull is
actually the wrong cross-sectional shape for any 'real' S Boat. At any rate it is only around 2.5 inches wide at its widest,
not wide enough for the landing craft.

The Vosper will also be too narrow as, based on a real world beam of 19' 4.5", it will only be about 3.23" wide in
1/72 scale.

The drawing below shows the relationship between the Program 4 ATC and extended bow Monitor.
a bow similar that of the Monitor would be doable with plastic card, or you could possibly use the bow
halves of the Airfix E-Boat for the sides (the hull is in four parts, port and stbd sides, transom and one
piece bottom, as it can be built as a sort-of waterline model) and join them with card.

... and an LCM 3 drawing that may be of assistance.

Jon.....wow.......many thanks..!!!! The turreted monitor has the type of bow I would want to have on the front of the landing craft...the pictures supplied are a great help....I found plenty of pictures while looking and one side profile.....but never found one from above.....many thanks for posting....very much appreciated.....H

I just looked on my home pc.....in the bookmarks I had one 'brown water navy' that took me to the RiverVet site.....knew I saved it for a reason....woohoo...!!

Having had access to a revell S-100 it is clear that it won't do as is,I was also reminded of the tamiya 1/35 'pibber'......mmmm,maybe something else to look into......
