Good call, there is a good reason for the similarities to Space 1999 ships

The Ship was designed / made by Space 1999 model maker Martin Bower for a film called The Day After Tommorow : Into Infinifty

He thought the film was another episode of Space: 1999 and thus designed the model to fit in with the other Space 1999 ship designs.
