There are rather a lot of whiffs over on the Model Cars Mag Forums - but then again, car modelers seem much more free-form and open to imagination than plane and armour guys. Plenty of things along the lines of 'what would I do to car X if I owned it and had an infinite budget', but this one stood out to me...
Chevy 1959 Impala flying car:

I'll let you follow the link and have a look at the project, suffice to say that a: it ends up looking a lot different and b: now I am thinking about flying Edsels...
There are no good kits, bad kits or grail kits, just kitbash fodder.

Perhaps because it's possible to do it for real?

Custom cars have, and have had for many years, a real world presence which is impossible with aircraft and armour. Well, it's impossible with the budgetry and legal restrictions placed on most of us anyway!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Like the Star Fire, good to see how it's evolved from the modellers first thoughts.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Someone asked the question "What if WhIfs become mainstream" somewhere? The answer in America is called Rat Rods. They were things cobbled together from what was on hand or easily available and now it has progreesed to simulated 'patina' and rust.People are building really nice hot rods and then finishing them in simulated aged paint and rust.
So yes, WhIfs can become mainstream.
