Here we have a Spitfire HF IXe(r) hight altitude interceptor of 601 squadron based in Italy late in the war. the "(r)" indicates that it was fitted with the RAE developed ram jet unit between the radiators, for that extra boost while in the climb to altitude.

Matchbox kit with ye olde Paul Lucas upper wing conversion set for the extended wing tips. Colin's (Freightdog) Ram jet unit, and squadron code's and serials from a Sky decals spitfire sheet.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Sharp as a tack and I especially like that you used one of the most eye-catching RAF schemes going! Any chance we can see a shot of the ramjet?

You're on a roll, Mr Higgs and batting 1000!
