I don't use a wide brush to apply the oil paint, for aircraft models a liner paint brush works very well for adding oil paint to panel lines, load the paint brush up with thinned oil paint and touch the panel line with the paint brush and the oil paint easily wicks into the line.
But I should stress that the models surface should be glossy or at least semi-gloss and the model should dampened with odorless mild thinner just before you attempt to add the oil paint to the panel lines.

A liner paint brush is a narrow diameter brush with extra long bristles and this type of paint brush works the best when using oil paints but other round brushes will also work.

Using a wide flat paint brush could also be used for work with oil paint but that would be overkill for aircraft models, this type of paint brush is ideal for armor models where the oil paint is needed over a much wider area than on aircraft.

Oil paints can also be used on matt surfaces too but the oil paint will spread out and not stay inside the panel lines plus its not so easily removed if a mistake is made and you want to remove the oil paint.

I stay away from acrylic paint for adding panel line washes, it does not flow as well off the paint brush and wick into the panel lines. Yes acrylic paint can be used for weathering effects but its not worth the trouble IMHO.

If you were to use enamel paint as a pin wash instead of oil paint be sure the models surface is protected by a coat of Future first, on your Messerschmitts for example use a slightly darker version of RLM 74 as your pin wash color and for the pale blue undersurface use RLM 76 with a touch of black to it...it should be dark enough to stand out but not enough to ruin the model.

It does have a somewhat cheeky grin  I've seen many pics of aircraft in hot climes (and some in wet) with umbrellas over the cockpit. Flipping pilots, think they are something special 

Mind you I have photo in one book of a Sherman rolling up a Dutch road with an umbrella up. but it is Guards Armoured Division

There's a lovely story in the National Army Museum's display of post war National Service of a couple of ex Etonians who on being called up and posted to an armoured regiment in Germany decided, as one does of course, to take their guns and dogs with them. On one occasion they remember driving through a German village with one of the Spaniels head's stuck out of the tank's turret wearing a beret and earphones and ears blowing in the breeze as only a spaniel's can.  Apparently this drew a lot of disdainfull looks from the residents  The rest of the crews however thought it was hilarious.

Both ended up as chairman of major companies  Dog probably entered Parliament in a nice safe seat

I had great fun doing these two planes as I slapped on some of my fave decals....what's the point of having them in the decal stash if you don't use them?.....this being a stickler for accuracy is for the birds....the Luftwaffe experten over at Hyperscale who know the serial numbers of every 109 ever made will choke on their kornenflaken when they see the snaps, but who cares?!
