Hey guys, i was doing some Research on Google because of the Link featuring the B-70 when an Idea Hit me,Tell me first if Anyone has Even Suggested Turning the Avro Vulcan into a Target Drone or used it as the basis for a UAV? that's my Idea:a Vulcan either as a Target drone or a UAV! think either one would Work? Thanks for looking.Dan

It would be EXPENSIVE, with a capital 'E'......
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

BLASPHEMY!!!!

Even thinking about using something as gloriously pretty as a Vulcan (or indeed any V-bomber) for target practice is the sign of a sick, sick mind. :P

Technically, you could do it - adapt the remote control gear used for the Sea Vixen drone programme. But there weren't really all that many Vulcans to begin with, they would be fairly easy targets compared to a fighter, and they would cost a lot to maintain in flying condition. Likewise an unmanned version. UAVs tend to be small and cheap and thus more "expendable" than a manned aircraft.

I'd put it on one of the plinths in Trafalgar square, as a national monument. When it rains at least there will be something to shelter underneath and if there is an event going on, no need for a marquee.

Guys, part of the Reason i asked was that i heard or Read somewhere that a Politico during the Vulcan's Development asked about building a Drone Version, that & a UAV i saw a picture of Looked like a Scaled down version of the Vulcan. FTR, I've Always thought of the Vulcan as Cool & a Symbol of England's  Aero Industry,No Offense was Ever meant in my Query! Dan

The "scaled-down Vulcan" was probably the Avro 707, which was a third of the size, and was used to test the handling characteristics of the Vulcan's delta wing, among other things: http://www.aeroflight.co.uk/aircraft/types/avro-707.htm

My "blasphemy" comment was not meant to be serious. No offence taken! :)

would make a good remote bomb UAV like the German Mistels or US Aphrodite projects -- fly it from the base canteen over A'stan
you may as well all give up -- the truth is much stranger than fiction.

I'm not sick ... just a little unwell.
