Recently I pulled out one of the 1/144th scale Revell mini-kits, an ME-262.  22 parts, and a very simple and spartan kit.  Not wanting to do another WW II German kit I figured I would do one in either Italian or Japanese marking.  Soon after I got an F-Toys Nakajima Kikka off of eBay, so that was the deciding factor to make this one into an Italian bird.  These are the initial work in progress pictures since the kit needed a lot of work to bring it up to acceptable standards.

So far the only back story I have come up with is this:  With the Allies threatening the invasion of Italy, Hilter and Mussolini came to an agreement that Germany would supply Italy with the new ME-262 and allow Italian aircraft factories make the fighter.  (I know, lacking, but between school, work, and other modeling projects, it was a long while before I made progress on the model and none on the back story).

As you can see by the picture, I had some body work to do.

Sucks to be the pilot!  But then again, the hole in the cockpit floor makes bailing out so much easier.

I have made progress on this kit.  I just haven't gotten any more pictures yet.  Currently I have the engines glued on and most of it painted.  Still trying to decide on the camouflage scheme, but I have the colors picked out.  I am just waiting for the rain to let up so I can take it outside to get updated pictures.

Some recent pictures.  I used putty to fill in the gaps in the plastic, added plastic sheet to roof the wheel bays and added a seat (I can't remember if I pulled the seat from my spares box or stole it from another kit).  I have started the painting, just need to decide on what scheme I want to use, although I have the color picked out.  The canopy, landing gear and bay doors are painted and ready to be added once I have the camouflage added.

No fear of the pilot falling out of the bottom now.

Looking forward to the result.  Some inspiration may be found here:  http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,27214.0.html

All hail the God of Frustration!!!

Interesting. I've built a few "never were" RA types plus a few "Luft 46" types in RA schemes. Just love some of those Italian late war 3 colour splinter schemes. Looking forward to this

Very interesting idea. Fantastic the thread you´ve refered.

Have you seen in the gallery, the ANR Me 262  of Ian The Hunter-Gatherer?.

That was a very interesting site!  As to the model, I have the camouflage scheme applied and finished any touch up painting.  Just waiting for the paint to dry so I can hit it with a gloss coat prior to applying the decals.  More pictures once they are on.  And I should have that done within the next couple of days since it looks like it will be raining during that time.

I was able to finish this off over the rainy weekend.  If/when I try this again, there are a few lessons I have learned that I will apply to it.  Mostly with the decals I printed out.  One of the curses from working in 1/144th scale, no after market decals or parts for modifications.

My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!
