I have tried to rekindle my interest in what ifs and have partially succeeded with this Westland Whirlwind tankbuster.

It was found to be superior to the Hurricane IId and was much feared by the Germans, who allegedly christened it "drei gehörnte wirbelnden zerstörer".
This name was later found to be the product of British propaganda much in the same way the Beaufighter was known by the Japanese as "whispering death".....Thanks to OGL for the resin fuselage.

Excellent Van!  I hope the pilot has it at full throttle when he squeezes the trigger!  ;D

I love those yellow trimmed codes, where do they come from please?
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

looks good Van. Its the first one I've seen built apart from my own.

Thanks Kit. I think they are from a Tamiya Mosquito

Thanks Martin, I got it from you last year at Cosford, and I thought I'd better do something with it!

Very nice job, and nice to see one of OGL's fuselages built up.

Looks pretty mean! I've always liked the pugnacious look of the Whirlwind, and I like the concept presented here.

Having the heavy guns that far out on the wings (to clear the propeller arc), though, might cause some problems with weight, recoil, and aim. I think if it were MY whif (which it is NOT, and I *DO* believe in "it's my fecking model") I would put the double 40mm just inside the propeller arc in the wing roots close to the ventral fuselage, or on the outer edges of the ventral fuselage. That would REALLY concentrate fire!

My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Very nice - tempting to do one myself.  As far as the cannon go I'm with Brother Narses!

And every time I see a Whirlwind I get the urge to build one with Merlins.  Just can't help it!
