A contemporary of the Boeing P-26 the Breda 27M (M for Metallico because of its all metal wings) saw service with the Chinese and Norwegian Air forces where is saw considerable success (well maybe not in Norway) against the Japanese. As a source of National pride Mussolini requested that this nimble little fighter be given a role in the Regia Aeronautica and display the skill of Italian pilots across Europe. Thus the Frecce Tricolori (iterally Tricolour Arrows) was born....
