RAF Roundel nickname Query

Hey Guys, i just did a Quick scan of Google trying to find out something. Does/Did the RAF ever have a Nickname for the Roundel? i know US Markings are 'stars and Bars'. part of the reason i ask is,because i had a Nickname for the Roundel. Don't Clobber me, but i thought the way the RAF Roundel looked,it Reminded me of a Dartboard. No Offense meant to anyone from the UK! thanks for looking. Dan

Dan during WWI RFC & RNAS pilots often thought the roundel looked a bit to much like a target especially when situated under the cockpit ! Not heard of a nickname as such though. Stars and bars is really a descriptor rather then a nickname I would of thought, although I'm probably being pedantic - who me ? never mother

I'm sure the roundel was also known as a cockade. Certainly there is a publication called Cross and Cockade.

Yeah, I always thought 'target' would be appropriate.

Yup it is also known as a cockade but I've always thought of that as either the posh (insert officers for the use of) version of roundel or a very WWI name. If anyone has an interest in early aviation by the way then I thouroughly recommend Cross and Cockade, the calendars are fantastic as well
