Punt Gun Mosquito Query

Hey Guys, i was just wondering about something because of a TV Show i was watching. Tell if Anyone knows This:Was there Ever a Plan to Equip a Mosquito with a Punt Gun? i know how Honkin' Big those things are but,did the RAF Consider Arming a Mosquito with one as a Possible Response to Operation Sea Lion during WW2? Hope this Doesn't Sound Nuts, but i'd seen a Punt Gun on a TV Show Called 'American Guns', a Client Paid to have a Modern version Built for him! That's Why i Asked!

I don't think the RAF ever thought of fitting a punt gun to a Mosquito!
But they did fit a 57mm (6 pounder) to some.
I believe they where known as the Mosquito XVIII sometimes known as the "Tsetse" Mosquito.
It was first intended as an Anti-Tank weapon, but in the end was used by Coastal Command in the anti shipping
Role.

Nice idea, would work well against massed troops, but you would need a different aircraft to a Mossie for the "Sealion" period. Perhaps a Blenheim would do.

I think you'll find the Mollins gun was originally an MGB gun.  I've never seen any evidence that the Mosquito equipped with it, the Mk.XVIII was ever intended for anything other than anti-shipping work.     Mollins the company that made the autoloader used to make cigarette rolling machinery.  They also made the loader and fuse setters for the 3.7in and 4.5in AA guns.  I suppose one long, cylindrical object is much like any other, really.

I think I saw one of these at Cosford recently. It was described by one of the staff as a "thinking stick".......get hit by a Molins gun and you definitely  pause for thought!

It's a good thing they didn't try and install it IN the Stranraer, it would have stopped dead when the gun was fired!

The de Havilland Museum has one, located with W4050 (or it was in 2007).
