Check out this article on the Armstrong Whitworth AW.56 tailless jet V bomber proposal of 1947 at RetroMechanix.com:

The article is based on an intelligence report provided to the U.S. Air Force Deputy Chief of Staff by the American Military Attache in London and features seven high resolution drawings of the aircraft and its various components.

Wasn't the AW.56 Armstrong Whitworth's competitor to the Vulcan/Victor proposals? Looks almost modellable, using a Victor kit as a basis perhaps.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Would it suprise anyone if I said I had already had a good look at doing a model of the AW56?

A Victor could be the basis for the fuselage, or a 1/48 Canberra fuselage, I shall have to check my lever arch file full of scaled drawings that carry my working annotations to see what may suffice for the wings, but a voice is saying Tu-16....

Wouldn't a YB-49 be a better starting point Duncan?  I've been thinking about slotting the left over Vulcan fuselage I have over the YB-49 and then sweeping back the outer wing panels.  It would look a little like this I think.

Oddly enough my project was going to be an AW one too (got the AW.52 kit in the stash which gave me the idea), I've been testing out some of the parts only a couple of weeks ago, my backstory is that Jack Northrop got fed up with all the hassles he was getting from his own government, that while on a visit to the UK during the war, visited AW and then promptly sold the flying wing design to them for the proverbial $1
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

Thats what I'm doing at this moment, digitally. But with a twist- this will become a ASW design using older V-Bomber AW56's converted into Nimrod type roles.

The intakes will be based on the Victor as will be the nose.

If you use a Victor kit, you may have to slightly "un-crescent" the wing by increasing the sweep of the outer portion with some crafty sawing and joining to get the AW56 of the drawings. Personally, I would leave the crescent in there and just call it a merger of HP and AW and the AWHP-56 was the wedding gift. Crescent wing flying-wing planes would be a unique build.

Back to the graphics tablet....

Here's an AW56 artwork. The AW56 was used as an ASW and Maritime patrol craft after its days with the V-bomber fleet were done.

Here two AW56 Ninus' are getting off to a soggy start from their Scottish airfield.
