Pass it along build?

Was thinking of how i build my models from part builds people have given up on or lost parts for and had an idea for a joint build. I'm sure i'm not the only one with part started models that i've lost interest in or misplaced parts for so they become stalled and take up room. So my idea was each member participating would send a stalled build they have onto another member and would follow this pattern so every member recieves a model to start from and complete to how they choose to. what do you think?

Umpteen years ago when I was the Branch Secretary of the late lamented IPMS Trent we did this with the members of the branch.

The result was a GINORMOUS 'space ship' about 4 ft long (that's about 1.2 metres for you youngsters.... ) painted matt purple that we hung over the branch stand at any shows with a large 'IPMS Tresnt' sign hanging from it. At club level it's relatively easy as the various parts can get handed over from one member to another at meetings, but with a group like ours the packing and postage costs might become a tad expensive, but it's a great idea nonetheless as it mixes everyones ideas and abilities into one project.

I'm not sure if Project D's idea was for one model that gets bigger and bigger: I read it as more like the Secret Santa GB, but instead of members passing new kits on to one another, they pass on stalled builds instead.

That was my idea Weaver, i'd not thought too much of costs as i thought it'd only be about the same price as posting a kit? only had the idea as i have a 1/48 viggen i was building for a friend thats changed their mind now and i don't have a clue what to do with it.

It's a fine idea, and I'd be interested.
If you want to keep postage costs down, do what I used to do with the SSGB and set people up to send a kit to someone in the same country, or atleast one close by. This means it's only local postage, not international, and avoids the somewhat ludicrous charges some postage services will impose to ship over large bodies of water...

Does anyone know how many people need to participate to make a theme build official? Thanks for the idea PW, I think i'll go about it this way if this goes any further.

I had about 20-25 interested in the Time Warped TB, but I'd say 15 minimum, 20 to be safe... But what to I know, depends if you want it to be successful.
