I am liking what you have done with this, and H beat me to it with the BTR-152 similarity. I am currently assembling a BTR-152S command vehicle and  makes you wonder what the russians were inspired by when designing them.A couple of these would fit in really well with what I am doing too. Nice one

I think the reason the Columbian conversions had only one axle is that there wasn't a need for carrying all that much weight. But....since you want a "heavy" turret in the back, then the dual dualies makes sense!! Wouldn't want to be in the driver's cab when the gun is fired forward!!
My mind is like a compost heap: both "fertile" and "rotten"!

Ah, good point about only one axle being really necessary. I have to admit I went for the double axle assembly mainly for the looks (I do like the BTR-152 quite a lot...  ;) ).

As for the driver, I'm currently thinking of three different options:

1) Armoured Car, Landau-style - rear compartment with overhead armour, armoured bulkhead, driver has to, well, duck and sweat it out...  ;D

2) Everything rather open, turret resting on some sort of beamy support structure, perhaps not even trainable - and gun is fired by remote control; imagine a remote control team at the end of a long cable...  ;D

3) Armoured Car, full Monty - armoured bulkhead between rear and front compartment, both with overhead armour, rear compartment possibly slightly raised

I guess I'll have to make a few paper mockups before deciding on the final design...
