Captain Canada

The box art had been calling my name for years. A piston/ jet powered B-29 derivative air-air refueling an old-school USAF Phantom ? So I finally bought it. My modeling problem has always been losing interest. I start something and then start something else and then....so anyway, I'm actually staying true to my word and foresaking all others until this one is done. I will be finishing it in RCAF colours with a short but sweet back story. My only question is : Should the trim sections be dayglo orange or red ? Red is more typical but orange might be more suitable for a Newfoundland based bird ?

Probably the first time I've ever painted the inside of a canopy. With this greenhouse, I think you kind of have to....

Sweet.  Love any version of the -99.

I would go with red.  Day-glo weathered so quickly and is tough to make look right on a model.

Can't quite guage it from the pictures , even the one with toothpick for reference, if this is 1/72 or 1/144- I'm guessing 1/144 for now.

Either way, a nice start for a project.

The 377 airliner/ B-50 derivatives were a great group of designs. US ANG KC-97's used to carry colorful markings on those broad surfaces, so am thinking that the RCAF would go one better. The US ones were red markings, but often they faded to orange in any case, so day-glo would be totally practical too, even alongside red and regular orange.

Thanks guys.

I had saw some nice photos on the 'net of USAF c-56's in Newfoundland with orange trim. They looked really good, but it just didn't seem right for a Canadian a/c of that era. especially one that wasn't a rescue bird. So I'll go with red. Might do a little more flare with the nacelles or something as well, but we'll see.

The model is 72nd scale. I guess if the toothpick wasn't much help then the Islander in the background might have been. The beer cans will only screw things up as well.
