It was over a year in the planning and less than a week to build.

I'll continue with my Aussierama alt-WW2 theme for my next 2 builds.

• One's a Hurricane XXII, as built by the Hurricane Division of the  Department of Aircraft Production (DAP). It will be Terry Sullivan's personal white-tailed 5 Squadron mount during operations in the region of Wewak, New Guinea, June 1945.
• The other is a La-7 flown by an Australian International Volunteer in the Eastern Front. The pilot is shaping up to be a cross between swimming champ Dawn Fraser and Red journalist Wilfred Burchett, with a few extra twists. Watch out for kangaroo markings on this one.

Not sure which I'll make first. Let's see.

Looking at my decals, make that a 4 Sqdn RAAF Hurricane. White markings. high-contrast against the camo with white tail and leading edges, New Guinea late 44.

Despite poetry bombing Frankston (http://seasoncreep.blogspot.com.au/2012/06/30612-frankston-poetry-bombing.html) I've been quietly busy on the modelling table and finished Terry Sullivan's DAP Hurricane XXV for the Aussierama:

Whilst working on the Hurribomber, I' was thinking ahead to the HobbyBoss La-7 kit in the stash and planning; and, a revelation! This La-7, to be flown by an Australian international volunteer pilot, is taking part in the Red's Far East campaign against Japan in August 1945. It occurred to me that both the Japanese and the Reds have red markings and that a way around this to limit friendly "Red on Red" fire would be for the Commies to adopt black and white invasion stripes. The close proximity of this potential enemy force wearing D-Day-like stripes would be enough to force the Western Allies to adopt alternative colours: hence the candy coloured yellow and orange stripes for the invasion of Honshu. It all makes sense now.
