Picked up a valom Boeing xf8b-1 at the south Shields show for  £5 , but at a loss of what to do the markings as. any ideas?

The kit is not to bad if you like making plastic kits which are over 1 mm thick  :o so i treated it like a resin kit whilst putting it together lots of :banghead: sanding!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banghead:!
This aircraft was in real life even larger than the skyrader, and on paper may of been a better aircraft, with 6 20 mm cannons and a internal bomb bay cabable of hauling 2.000 of bombs and a further 6.000 on 6 external points and a combat range of 2500 km, and a ferry range of 6000 km make a flight from the west coast of the USA to iwo jima none stop.

Almost right Lee, but it really needs Suez stripes.

Think they'd be too early for Suez.  Besides which, even with an extended war to get it into service, ending possibly '47, you'd still have the UK dumping the Lend-Lease equipment pretty fast because we simply couldn't afford to keep it so any British XF8s would go straight over the side.  On top of that, it's more likely that any supplied to the UK would be in overall dark blue for use during the invasion/blockade of Japan and carrying BPF markings.

French Navy instead of Corsairs, possibly with Suez stripes.  Certainly more plausible than British operated ones over Suez.

The Wyvern looks prettier anyway.

I have to be honest and say that I think that Suez stripes are fast becoming yet another whiffing cliche. Especially when you're getting mainstream companies (Trumpeter springs to mind) releasing prototypes in whiff Suez markings.  I've always thought that whiffing was partly about rejecting the mainstream?

were there ever any theater markings for Korea?

Yes, white style D-Day stripes for FAA and RAN aircraft.

However, it's a pretty BIG aircraft - would it be capable of being accomodated in the hangars of the British carriers?  Yes, you could have us operating bigger carriers in theatre but don't forget that the Navy didn't have the manpower.  Shore based operating from airfields in the south or possibly Japan is probably the most plausible.

I've a Mauler somewhere that was going to end up as an FAA aircraft and there's an XF8 to go with it.

its only a few cm larger than the gannet so it would fit upon the larger fleet carriers altough it would need the gannets double wing fold i believe

Wings Palette has a few good Korean War profiles of different types, there are several on each page I've linked to.  Click on the thumbnails for bigger pics.  Firefly and Sea Fury seem to have five stripes compared to the Seafire's three.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
