In 2012, with the Berlin Wall firmly intact and the Warsaw Pact ever threatening NATO's borders, tensions run high for the personnel of a booming RAFG.

The installation of a complicated air defence network and SAM sights in East Germany prompts the RAF to issue a specification for a dedicated SEAD aircraft.  After much deliberation, it is decided that the best way to infiltrate, hunt down and destroy SAM sites, is to not be seen by them.  therefore, a stealthy aircraft is sought after as a basis for the specification.

Eventually, the Lockheed F-22 Raptor is bought to make one dedicated squadron, 9 Sqn, as the RAF Sam site hunters.

As the standard RAF Anti-radar missile, the Alarm, will not fit inside the F-22's bays, hardpoints are fitted. It is seen as acceptable to loose some of the stealth in favour of extra range and weaponary capability.

On July 8th 2012, 9 Sqn form at RAF Wildenrath, equipped with Raptor FG.1 aircraft.








Alongside the Lightning F.1 of 799 Sqn RNAS



And alongside the RAF's first "stealth" aircraft, also flown by 9 Sqn, the Gloster Rapier

I don't know what's going on there. Everywhere I have posted it is the same, but the pics were there last night when I posted!  My Photobucket seems to be full of these little squares so maybe it's on the fritz?
