I'm working on a back story and need some information which I can't find.  Who was the Chief Designer at BAC after its formation in 1960?

Dunno if there was one as such, as the different bits of BAC still went their own way as far as designs went.

One candidate may well have been Sir George Edwards, but his official title at the time of the merger was Chairman of Vickers.

So, no single guiding hand?   In that case, who'd have been English Electric's chief designer in 1960?

That would have been Frederick Page, nothng to do with Handley-Page of course.

Page was Petter's assistant before Petter and E-E had their great fallling out and Page took over the post. He ended up as Chairman of BAe when that was formed until he retired in 1982.

Page became Chief Engineer in 1955.

The thing to remember about Chief Designer and Chief Engineer positions at aerospace firms is
that the projects under their control are not necessarily their concepts, this is especially true from
the mid-30s on.

i.e. at E-E in the mid to late 1950 s on the P.17 project that led to the TSR.2, Page was Chief Engineer,
R.F. Creasey was Page's deputy, B.O. Heath was Chief Project Engineer and the design itself was primarily
the work of G.F. Sharples working from concepts originally conceived by Creasey during his work on a Canberra replacement.

During the same period F.D. Crowe was chief designer, Canberra, and A.E. Ellison was chief designer, P.1.

Info from the Putnam on E-E.
