Here is the finished 1/48 scale Tamiya Nakajima Type 11 nightfighter.

This simple scheme of overall dark green was a challange to make it look interesting and did not want to resort to the usual pre-shading I have seen others do on this kit so I did pre-lightening on a few of the uppersurface panels and it seemed to work and gives a realistic looking finish. Photographs of Irvings are few but the ones I did see showed these aircraft to have very little paint chipping with the paint finish on them in fair condition and tried to get my model to look the same. The wingroots were the only place that showed much wear on the paintwork and I added some wear and tear on the wingroot of my model by using a mix of an artist silver pencil and silver colored paint.

Yet another masterpiece from you Matrix, absolutely stunning workmanship that gives such an authentic look to the build.

That looks so real you can almost SMELL it!  ;D

Cracking job Matrixone.  :drink:
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Beautiful as ever Matrix, well done!

It reminds me I've got to finish my Airfix Ki46 as well, including all the damm masking on those bloody greenhouse framed canopies...

Wonderful results, Matrix' both model and photographic.

Those exhausts shields really sell it, as PR19 said, I can smell the hot iron.

The black soot, rusting and chipping at the edges remind me of several vehicles I have owned and the ones in New England in particular. Was always fun to take them to Midas and watch the service tech drop the entire muffler and pipes with a rap of his fist, watch it crumble onto the service bay floor.

Such a cracking good build I feel like asking the pilot to take me for a spin. I could swear it was a real full-sized aircraft.

Not only a quality build, but followed up with interesting and plausible photography.  Thanks for sharing and inspiring!

Really, really nice. As you say mono coloured aircraft are difficult to make interesting, but you've cracked that one
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Very nice - and using a simple livery was IMHO the right decision. Great pics, too

Many thanks for the comments guys!

Now that this real world Nakajima is finished I can get going full speed with my 1/32 scale Fw 190D-9 what-if.
