Started work on the Mach 2 Convair Sea Dart.I have decided it will have 4 AIM-9s in pairs on overwing pylons. The canopy will be revised - I have the Italeri F-19 kit and the trainer version canopy looks like it will fit without too much effort - which is handy, as the Sea Dart canopy would also seem to be a resonable fit on the F-19, which had the single seat canopy missing ;D

Great, love the Sea Dart!  I found a F-8 Crusader canopy was a good fit if you want a more traditional canopy (I used Italeri) on the Mach 2 fuselage.  I put my sidewinders on the side of the intake to keep them out of the spray.  Looking forward to your double mounts.

Looking forward to this, always had a soft spot for the Sea Dart
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

In the RW it would have been a pig to mount the 'winders like that, as the rocket exhaust might have gone straight into the air intakes for the somewhat tempremental J-46 engines.

It's difficult to see where they could have put them to preventr this problem though, apart from on top of the fin perhaps...........  ;)

I'm going for pylons mounted on top of the wings, thus moving them further away from the intakes. Of course with this being a WHIF, I suppose smokeless missiles are not impossible ;D

Two stage missle with the first being an directed explosive charge to get them away from the engine intakes before they fired the main engines might work.

Excellent Whiff thinking there both of you.

Nah, equipped with TUFFS: TUbe-launched Folding Fin Sidewinders.  ;D

Missiles are pneumatically or explosively ejected from the tubes, and after launch the tubes and pylons
are blown free with explosive fasteners.

On top of the fuselage with long, extending scissor ejectors, rather like how the Tornado F3 gets its missiles out into the (relatively) calm air below the fuselage.  I saw a picture of this once and was astounded at how far the ejectors extended below the fuselage (about a metre or so).  All happens apparently in a flash with explosive charges propelling the ejector and the missile until its released under it's own power and then the ejector retracts nearly as fast by springs.

Or how the F-102 and F-106 launch their Falcons? Both the Hase and Ming kits include the scissor launchers together with the missiles, and huge they surely are!
