It's still a current WiP, but I post the idea and current status, anyway, since there some fellows here who know what I am doing ;)

This is a kit conversion - I am currently building a 1:8 scale resin figure, based on this fan-art ("Doujinshi") illustration I found a while ago in the net on miotd.com:

Future project: 1:8 - Neon Genesis Evangelion [Doujinshi variant]: Rei Ayanami in test plugsuit (kit conversion) by dizzyfugu, on Flickr

While Rei Ayanami is a "real" character, she never appeared (so far) in this type of pilot suit - it was introduced on another character of the series, Asuka Soryu Langley, and it is a basically red suit.

I found the illustration very inspiring and like an essence of Rei's character, and upon closer inspection I recognized that the unknown artist of the illustration had used the Asuka test plugsuit, transplanted a Rei head, and changed the colors - a concept that would be possible with a kit, too.

Said and done, I organized a respective "Asuka-in-test-plugsuit" kit (and this is what the test plugsuit "really" looks like):

Finding a suitable kit is DIFFICULT, and finding a proper head for transplantation is even harder, since "1:8 scale" can mean anything concerning garage/character kits.

Anyway, I am currently waiting for the head donation kit to arrive, but this here is the current status of the body:

More to come (esp. when the head arrives!), the base is self-made, the figure was painted with rattle can acryllic paints and received a light ink wash. Promising!

Finally finished! A whif of a different kind...  ;D It took a long way and several experiments to get this project done, but here it is: (pics are a bit grainy because they were taken with very little artificial light due to the figures light and faded colors on black background, and partly due to digital zoom):

This one-of-a-kind-figure is (as of date) fictional, but I found this "variant" charming. It catches so well Rei's cold character, the colors are strong, and overall the figure appears very plausible. Actually, I like this test plugsuit variant better than the "real" red one from Asuka, from the re-worked Evangelion 2.0 movie.

Anyway, this here is the bashing of two stock resin kits, not a true or original invention of mine. It is a simple 1:8 scale Asuka in her test plugsuit, with a transplanted Rei head of the same scale, from a H²-project figure. Finding one of proper size was a tedious task!

More about the WiP, pics of the finished figure (more to come) and details on building and painting can be found in the respective set of mine at FlickR:

Nicely done. :) You have inspired me to dig out a figure kit I have and start work on it. I may well do some modding as well!
